62 SCHOLARSHIPS EXHIBITIONS AND BURSARIES SAMBROOKE EXHIBITIONS IN THEOLOGY Exhibitions not exceeding £20 in value arising from the Legacy bequeathed to the College by Thomas Godfrey Sambrooke are given at the discretion of the Dean to students of the second year in the Faculty of Theology who are in need of assistance BURSARIES number of Bursaries are given through the under the Will of the late Mr Richards to enable students to spend their final year in residence at the Theological hostel In 1943 under the Will of the late Reverend Macrae Vicar of St Olave's Woodberry Down London the Council received the sum of £1 800 for providing three Bursaries to be called Macrae Bursaries for the assistance of students of slender means intending to take Holy Orders in the Church of England CLEAVE COCKERILL POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP Founded in 1937 under the Will of Alice Mary Cockerill in memory of her brother Thomas Cleave Cockerill The following regulations were made by the Council on June 1939 and revised on July 13 1948 Candidates must be in Holy Orders in the Church of England or in some Church in communion with the Church of England Preference will be given to former students of King's College The Scholarship is of the value of £200 year together with free residence at the Theological Hostel in addition all fees will be remitted The Scholar will be required to reside at the Theological Hostel to read for Higher Degree of the University of London and to give some assistance in tutorial work in the Theological Department of King's College and at the Chapel Services in the Theological Hostel The Scholar may not undertake any outside work without the consent of the Council The usual appointment of Scholar will be for two years but the Council will require report on his progress at the end of the first year of tenure and may if they consider it necessary decline to confirm the award for the second year
