ANNUAL REPORT xxix Lord Wright of Durley was the principal guest at the Faculty of Laws Society Dinner Towards the end of the session the Faculty suffered very severe loss in the tragic death of Dr Barlow who had established high reputation throughout the University for his teaching of Roman Law FACULTIES OF ARTS AND SCIENCE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION Number of Students Postgraduate Certificate in Education 79 Academic Diploma in Education Higher Degree Courses Ph Total 101 Results of Postgraduate Certificate Examination Seventy-eight students passed the examination for the Postgraduate Certificate One student obtained distinctions in both the practical and the theoretical parts of the examination eight in the practical part only and three in the theoretical part only Results of Academic Diploma Examination Three students passed the examination for the Academic Diploma Higher Degrees Morgan Truant schools of the School Board for London Departmental Notes Although short-staffed the Department had an unusually successful session securing record number of distinctions in the theoretical and practical parts of the Postgraduate Certificate examination Students of the department took large part in the life of the College as whole and the Education Society as demonstration of its own capacity in play-production gave three public performances of Esther McCracken's Quiet Week-End in the Great Hall in February It was directed by Mr Morrish Members of the staff took substantial part in the lecturing pro- gramme of the University of London Institute of Education including the public lecture programme and summer school for overseas students on the English Educational System They also served on number of Institute committees
