χ ANNUAL REPORT Professor Winnington-Ingram was elected Chairman of the Library Committee of the London Institute of Classical Studies Mr Adams was awarded the Ph degree of the University of Nottingham He was appointed Senior Scientific Officer at the British Museum Natural History Dr Bennett was ordained Deacon at Chelmsford Cathedral on September 23rd 1956 to serve in the parish of St Mary the Virgin Prittlewell Mr Bland was elected an Honorary Member of the Louisiana State Law Institute Dr Brownlee was re-elected to the Council of the Research Defence Society and to the Council of the Comparative Medicine section of the Royal Society of Medicine Dr Bryce-Smith was appointed Lecturer in Chemistry at Reading University Dr Cloudsley-Thompson was appointed to the General Com- mittee of the Field Studies Council Dr Coupland was appointed to post in Atomic Power Mr Crow was appointed member of the Councils of the Oxford Bibliographical Society the Malone Society the Friends of the Bodleian and the Bibliographical Society He was awarded Fellowship of the Folger Library for July-September 1956 Mr Elwell was awarded the Ph degree of the University of London Dr Gossage was elected to the Council of the Hellenic Society Dr Mary Hackett was awarded the Prix de la Grange of the Academie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres for the third volume of her work on Oirart de Boussillon Mr Jones was elected to Joint-Lectureship in Jurisprudence at Oriel and Exeter Colleges Oxford He was awarded the Bennett Prize of Lincoln's Inn for 1956 Mr Jones was appointed to the Readership in Spanish tenable at Queen Mary College Mr Kennedy was selected to attend the 1956 International Seminar at Harvard University Dr Kiralfy and Mr Bland were appointed Assistant Editors of The International and Comparative Law Quarterly Dr Landers was re-elected Honorary Secretary of the Annual Conference of University Teachers of French Mr Mendes da Costa was awarded the Grotius Prize of the City of London Solicitors' Company Dr Pitcher was awarded moiety of the Lyell Fund of the Geological Society for his research on the igneous and metamorphic rocks of Donegal and on the tertiary and pleistocene deposits of south- east England
