166 FACULTY OF MEDICAL SCIENCE The registrable qualifications in Medicine and Surgery in London are those given by the University of London the Conjoint Board of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians and the Society of Apothecaries Each course is divisible into pre-clinical and clinical period and King's College provides education in the pre-clinical stage for the Uni- versity of London degree On completing their pre-clinical training students proceed to one of the following Hospitals King's College Hospital Denmark Hill St George's Hospital Hyde Park Corner or Westminster Hospital Horseferry Rd Millbank No student is allowed to begin pre-clinical studies at the college who has not also been provisionally accepted by one of these hospitals for clinical training Men applying for entry to King's College should make application to the Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Medical Science at the college not later than October 31st preceding the October in which admission is desired They should also apply at the same time to one or more of the above Hospitals Prospectuses of these Hospitals may be obtained free and post free on application to the Secretary of the Medical School of each Hospital The maximum number of women to be admitted in any one year is eight for King's College Hospital Medical School six for St George's and six for Westminster Selected women applicants for admission to the Degree course of the University of London at King's College and at one of these Hospitals will be interviewed by committee consisting of representatives of the College and the Hospitals Applica- tions from women students should reach the Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Medical Science King's College Strand by October 31st preceding the session in which admission is desired Women wishing to proceed to Westminster Hospital or St George's Hospital for clinical studies should make simultaneous application to the Medical Schools there The pre-olinical years are spent in preparing for the first and second degree examinations The first examination in which the subjects are chemistry physics and general biology is taken at the end of three terms one session The second in anatomy physiology and pharmacology is taken at the end of further five terms of study Normally lst students who do not pass their examination at the first attempt will be required to withdraw from the College Such students may apply for re-admission to the College if they are successful at the following examination 2nd students are allowed two attempts at the 2nd examination if not successful at the second attempt they are required to withdraw from the College
