CLASSES 155 BOTANY Head of the Department Professor Thomas Archibald Bennet-Clark Ph Biol Sc Special Botany Students should consult the Head of the Department The course to be followed lasts three years and requires two ancillary subjects to be taken from the group Chemistry Geology Physics Physiology Statistics Zoology on account of difficulties of timetable and accom- modation Physiology cannot be taken in this college with Botany Geology or Statistics may only be offered in very exceptional circum- stances At the present time two-year course in Chemistry and one-year course in Zoology are given to cover these requirements and similar course in Physics is available for suitably qualified students Candidates will be examined in one of the ancillary subjects at the end of the first year and in their second ancillary subject and also in Part Sc Special Botany at the end of their second year All candidates will normally be expected to offer Chemistry as two-year ancillary subject At the end of the third year candidates take Part II of Sc Special Botany considerable measure of specialisation occurs in courses and examinations for Part Lecture and laboratory courses will be given covering the fields of plant physiology and biochemistry anatomy cytology and genetics ecology general mycology and microbiology including some plant pathology This part of the course is conducted in the research and advanced teaching laboratories at 68 Half Moon Lane 24 In addition series of intercollegiate courses is organised by the Board of Studies in Botany Sc General Botany Students should consult the Head of the Department Courses for Part and Part II Sc General Botany are given but time-table difficulties may arise in taking these in conjunction with certain other subjects Synopsis of Courses I-Botany Ancillary to Zoology Geology etc and for Sc General Part New Regulations Z1-Lectures At least hours throughout one session
