FACULTY OF LAWS 123 LECTURES AND TUTORIAL CLASSES The teaching of Law in the University is based upon an intercollegiate arrangement at King's College University College the London School of Economics and the School of Oriental and African Studies Under this intercollegiate scheme day and evening lecture courses for the Intermediate and Final examinations for the LL degree have been arranged and for these composition fees are charged The lectures are delivered at all four colleges and students taking the evening course must be prepared to attend on four evenings week during term time In addition to lecture courses tutorial classes are held in the College for both day and evening students and students are attached for tutorial supervision to member of the Staff to whom they must report from time to time during the session Emphasis is laid upon this tutorial instruction in which small groups of students are taken together It forms substantial part of the law teaching and is important not only for the purpose of instruction but also for maintaining personal contact between students and the members of the teaching staff and for supervision by the latter Evening as well as day students are required to attend tutorial classes in addition to lecture courses If exceptional circumstances occur which make regular attendance at these classes impossible the Sub-Dean of the Faculty must be notified Regularity in attendance at tutorial classes is factor which will be given consider- able weight when deciding whether student who has failed to satisfy the examiners at degree examination may be readmitted as an internal student and allowed to repeat the course for the examination at which he has failed Students should not attend Bar lectures or other courses of lectures nor prepare for Bar or other examinations during their course at the College without consulting the Dean of the Faculty Permission to be absent from classes or college examinations for the purpose of sitting for other examinations must be obtained beforehand College Examinations College examinations are held attendance at which is compulsory for day students It is desirable that evening students also should attend these examinations and failure to do so without reasonable excuse will be taken into consideration as in the case of absence from tutorial classes Academic Dress It is the practice for full-time undergraduates of this Faculty to wear gowns when attending lectures and classes and on other formal occasions Undergraduates joining the Faculty will be expected to conform with this practice
