120 DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION Applications for entry to the course can be made by graduates or by students in the last year of their degree course on special form which must be sent in not later than December 15th before the autumn in which the course is to be begun Selected candidates will be inter- viewed during the session which precedes the beginning of the course The Advanced Study of Education Courses in preparation for the Academic Diploma and the and Ph degrees in Education The courses for the begin in October of each session and are associated with courses for the Academic Diploma in Education It is required of candidates that they present themselves for the examination for this Diploma in order to qualify for acceptance for the degree itself The courses are carried on in conjunction with the Institute of Education Students are required to attend an approved course of study For the Academic Diploma this extends over not less than one academic year for full-time students and not less than two academic years for part-time students All students must attend courses in two of the following subjects -The Philosophy of Education Comparative Education History of Education Educational Psychology Educational Sociology Educational Organisation and Administration Theory and Practice of Teaching Unless exempted under the regula- tions students must also attend course on the General Theory of Education For the an approved course of study is again necess- ary the required duration being two academic years full-time or three part-time Intending students should first consult the regulations of the Univer- sity and then seek an interview with the Head of the Department In the case of applications these interviews are most conveniently arranged toward the end of September or during the previous session The course for the Ph can be begun in any term of the session Those who desire to pursue their studies in Education on the Psycho- logical side are advised to apply for registration in the first instance to the University of London Institute of Education Malet Street Tuition Fees for Academic Diploma or Ph Full-time £25 year or £9 £9 £8 in successive terms Part-time for Academic Diploma £12 10e year or £5 £4 £4 in successive terms Part-time for or Ph £17 year or £6 term but after three years registration fee only of £5 year will be charged
