general information 57 and an Intercollegiate debate Commemoration Service is held in the College Chapel and an Oration is delivered in the Great Hall In 1949 the College gave the Union Society the first four floors of the Chesham Hotel in Surrey Street These were furnished and equipped as the Union Society premises and provide Refectory and Bar mixed lounges Faculty common rooms and offices The venture proved an immediate success and the Chesham is firmly established as the home of the Union Publications The official handbook setting out the rules and constitution of the Society together with information regarding all Clubs and Societies is issued to all members at the beginning of each session King's College Review the literary magazine is published once term and King's News which is of social character appears fort- nightly Contributions for both periodicals are invited from members Athletic Ground The Athletic Ground at Mitcham was purchased by the War Memorial Committee as part of the College Memorial of the 1914-18 war and was brought into use at the beginning of 1921 Three large army huts were used as temporary pavilion accommoda- tion until 1931 when the present permanent pavilion was erected and the Pavilion Fund instituted to repay the debt incurred in the building Since that time the Union Society has organised through the Faculties regular collection of contributions from students to the Pavilion Fund OLD STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION President Sir Ernest Barker Litt LL Chairman Combridge Hon Treasurer Β Smith LL Hon Secretary Mason Sc Inst Engineering Branch President Hopkins Mech Hon Secretary Α Driver Sc Eng Laws Branch President Lachlan Maclean Hon Secretary Gill LL Membership is open to all past students who have been members of the College for at least three terms and to all present students in the last year of an approved course and to past and present members of the Academic Stafl The functions arranged by the Association include the Annual General Meeting and Supper on Friday in the Michaelmas term and dance in the College on Friday early in the Lent term Members receive notices of these events of the Conversazione and the Com- memoration week activities and of public lectures arranged in college Many informal activities are also arranged including visits to places of
