iv ANNUAL REPORT went to Warminster happily and thankfully as to place which they needed and which they knew to be integral to their training Fifty- three men were in residence for the first two terms and thirty-seven for all four terms The Principal paid his annual visit to the College and gave lecture and all and each of the Staff of the Faculty visited the College at one time or another The Dean continued his custom of visiting the College every other week and for the whole of Holy Week The Council cannot be completely satisfied until Warminster is self- supporting and it seemed unlikely that this end would be achieved during the year under review chiefly owing to the heavy cost of paying the wages of non-resident domestic staff but on the side of ordination- training awareness grew during the year among members of the Council that Warminster is unique among the Anglican Theological Colleges and that it is already gratefully recognised as such by the authorities of the Church To speak plainly without Warminster the Theological Department was suspect with it it is in very strong position indeed But the Council realise that Warminster would not be what it is with- out the Warden and the Chaplain whom it was their good fortune to secure as the pioneers of this College which has now established itself as the happy and effective completion of what is done for the men in the three London years of their training The financial position was greatly improved when the Governors of St Boniface College made gift of £1 500 For this very generous act the Council were deeply grateful It can now be said that the Reserve Funds of the Council have been depleted only to the extent of £1 993 by the launching of the new College This is very much happier position than that which was faced when the estimated de- ficit was £7 000 That sum has now been reduced by the two grants referred to in the 1948-49 Report £2 500 and £1 400 and by this latest gift of £1 500 from the Governors of St Boniface College The Council wish again to place on record their gratitude to the administrative staff of the College for all the services they render in connection with Warminster University Degrees etc Two students gained the degree of Th In the examination three students two men and one woman gained lst Class Honours four were placed in the 2nd Class and four obtained Pass Degree The year ended with particularly promising performances in the earlier stages of the degree course by large number of women students The women candidates for the Lambeth Diploma were also of high quality Associateship In the Faculty of Theology the Diploma was awarded to 34 students Four were placed in the First Class and eight in the Second Class
