184 FACULTY OF ENGINEERING Group Electrical Theory and Design of Machines Hydraulics Theory of Heat Engines Electrical Technology Electrical Theory Mathematics Engineering Metallurgy 11 candidate at the Part II examination may be referred in any one subject at the discretion of the examiners Such candidate will be permitted to proceed to the course for the Part III and to present himself for re-examination in the subject in which he has been referred at the next Part II examination The marks awarded on re-examina- tion shall not exceed fixed minimum required to satisfy the examiners Candidates absent through illness from part of Part II may apply for permission to enter for the whole of Parts II and III together in subsequent year candidate who takes his referred subject of Part II at the same time as Part III of the examination and fails in the referred subject but otherwise satisfies the examiners in Part III will be credited with Part III and allowed to complete Part II by passing in the referred subject alone at some future examination Simultaneous reference in Part and Part II will not be permitted in any circumstances 12 candidate who has satisfied the examiners in Part II of the examination or has been referred or has been permitted to enter for the whole of the Part II and Part III examinations together under Section 11 shall be eligible to present himself for Part III of the examin- ation after having satisfactorily attended approved courses extending over not less than one academic year subsequent to the Part II examin- ation in each of the subjects offered for the Part III examination 13 The subjects of the Part III examination shall be as follows Structures and Soil Mechanics Geology and Soil Classification Heat Engines Theory and Design of Machines Strength and Elasticity of Materials Two papers of three hours each in each of these basic subjects to Electrical Machinery Electrical Power Electrical Measurements and Telecom munications An individual problem Candidates will be required to pass examinations in three basic subjects grouped as below and to pass in the individual problem Course work will be required in each subject except Geology Subjects
