182 FACULTY OF ENGINEERING Δ candidate who possesses an approved Higher School Certificate with passes at main subject standard in three of the subjects Pure Mathematics Applied Mathematics Physics and Chemistry or has passed in three of the foregoing four subjects at the examination at Advanced Level for an approved General Certificate of Education or at the Preliminary examination may be allowed to complete the quali- fication required for entry on the course by taking the fourth subject during the course for the Part examination and shall be eligible to present himself for the Part examination provided he has satisfied the foregoing conditions as to attendance If candidate has been allowed under the Regulations for Advanced Students proceeding to Bachelors degree to complete the Preliminary examination in certain specified subjects during or at the end of the Part course he shall none the less be eligible to present himself for the Part examination provided that he has satisfied the foregoing conditions as to attendance although the examination would take place in the same academic year as that in which the candidate completes the Preliminary examination If student who is permitted to present himself for the com- pletion of the qualification required for entry on the course in the same academic year as he presents himself for the Part examination fails to complete the Preliminary examination he will not be notified of the result of his candidature at the Part examination The subjects of the Part examination shall be as follows Strength and Elasticity of Materials One paper of three hours Hydraulics in each of subjects Theory of Heat Engines to Surveying Electrical Technology Theory of Machines and Engineering Two papers of three and Drawing fourhoursrespectively Mathematics Two papers of three hours each Candidates will be required to satisfy the Examiners in all seven subjects Marks in this examination will not be included in the aggregate for final classification In each subject excepting Mathematics the examination shall include the examination of Course Work The standard of the question papers and of the Course Work for this examination shall be such as is generally recognised as suitable for candidates who have completed one academic year after passing the Preliminary examination It shall be within the discretion of the Board of Examiners to refer candidate in not more than one subject candidate who has been referred in subject under Section
