180 faculty of lEnoineerino COURSES OF STUDY This Faculty provides systematic course of study of University character for those intending to devote themselves to Engineering The scientific principles which underlie all branches of Engineering together with the methods of applying those principles are taught in carefully graduated courses extending normally over three years arranged 80 as to give preparation for those wishing to take the degree of Sc in Engineering of the University of London and the Diploma or Certificate of the College Students are admitted as either Regular or Occasional Students Regular students are those taking full-time courses and paying the composition fee of their Faculty Occasioual students are those pay- ing only the fees for the separate classes attended they are normally expected to attend at least four hours week The attention of students is called to the General College Rules for which see Table of Contents Students are expected to spend at least one half of each of their two summer vacations in engineering works The College will assist them as far as possible in obtaining such experience which will be found most valuable in their College work Students are reminded that their College course represents only part of their education as engineers and that substantial part of their training must of necessity be obtained in actual engineering work Enquiries regarding facilities for research should be addressed to the Head of the Department concerned I-COURSES FOR THE Sc ENGINEERING DEGREE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF LONDON Conditions of Entry Before entering the Faculty to study for the Degree in Engineering it is necessary to have qualified to matriculate in the University of London and to have passed or been exempted from the Intermediate examination in Science in the subjects of Pure Mathematics Applied Mathematics Physics and Chemistry The Intermediate Sc Engineering examination may still as transitional measure in special cases be accepted as an alternative Section of the following University Regulations notwithstanding the College will not accept save in very exceptional circumstances an applicant with pass at subsidiary standard in one of the four subjects named unless that subject is Chemistry
