152 FACULTY OF NATURAL SCIENCE CHEMISTRY Head of the Department Donald Holroyde Hey Ph Sc Daniell Professor Sc Special Chemistry This course lasts threo years and requires three ancillary subjects namely Physics Mathematics and Geology or Biology University examinations are taken in Mathematics and the optional ancillary subject at the end of the first session and in Physics and Part of the Chemistry course at the end of the second session The results of these examinations are taken into account in awarding honours in the final examination Part II of the Chemistry examination is taken at the end of the third session In addition candidates must pass written test in German Sc General and Subsidiary Chemistry Students attend in the first session Lecture Classes and Z4 and in their second session Z8 and Z9 working six hours week in the laboratory during each session Ancillary Chemistry Students taking Chemistry ancillary to Sc Special Botany attend in the first session Lecture Classes Z5 and and in the second session and Z12 working five hours week in the laboratory during each session Tho course for Chemistry ancillary to Sc Special Geology will be arranged at the beginning of each session Advanced Courses and Research Work Facilities are afforded in the Department for carrying out research work in Physical Chemistry and in Organic Chemistry either in- dependently or under the direction of members of the staff Colloquia are held at regular intervals throughout the session Synopsis of Courses I-B Sc General and Subsidiary First Session -Physical Chemistry hr first and second terms hrs third term -Organic Chemistry hr -Practical Class β hrs Zt-Inorganic Chemistry hr third term only
