142 FACULTY OF NATURAL SCIENCE more than one entry for Higher School examination four subjects must be included Entry to Sc Special Courses under the Bevised Regulations In most courses for the Sc Special Degree the University has introduced revised regulations involving three-year course of study for the final examination For these courses it is no longer necessary to pass or register exemption from the Intermediate Examination The qualifications for entry to these courses are stated in terms of Higher School Certificate with passes at main standard unless otherwise indicated in certain specified subjects or in certain number of subjects or in terms of subjects passed at Advanced Level for the General Certificate of Education Candidates who have not passed an examination for Higher School Certificate or for General Certificate of Education in all the subjects required may take such additional subjects as may be necessary before entering College in the Preliminary Qualifying Intermediate Science Examination for Internal Students or at the External Intermediate Examination in Science Note At King's College only the Sc General Degree and the Sc Special Degree in Zoology are taken under the old regulations and in most cases students wishing to take the Sc Special Degree in Zoology will read first for the Sc General Degree until the revised regulations for these courses are introduced Candidates accepted for either Special Degree in Zoology or for General Degree will be re- quired to register exemption from the Intermediate Examination but should await instructions before doing so NORMAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY TO PARTICULAR DEGREE COURSES For entry to the following special degree courses under the revised regulations candidates will be required to have passed at main standard unless otherwise indicated in Higher School Certificate or at Advanced Level in General Certificate examination in the subjects indicated below See also section Î’ above Mathematics Pure Mathematics Applied Mathematics and another Science subject preferably Physics An entrance examination may be held at the discretion of the Head of the Mathematics Depart- ment Physics Physics Chemistry Pure Mathematics together with Applied Mathematics at either Advanced or Ordinary Level in at either main or subsidiary standard or ii Physics Chemistry Mathematics Pure and Applied Chemistry Chemistry Physics and either Mathematics Pure and Applied or Pure Mathematics Botany Botany and any two of the subjects Physics Chemistry Zoology Biology is not regarded as satisfactory preliminary In cases where alternative qualifications for entry given in the University Regulations are not quoted in this section it should be assumed that they will not generally apply at King's College Candidates who have passed only in Pure Mathematics will be required to produce evidence of satisfactory knowledge of Applied Mathematics more particularly Dynamics
