COUR8E8 OF STUDY 141 Students who wish to enter the Faculty of Science and who have taken the Matriculation or School Certificate examination should note that one of the subjects of Matriculation must have been Elementary Mathematics pass in the "Alternative Lower Paper" or at the lower standard in the Matriculation or School Certificate examina- tion does not qualify student to enter on degree course in Science Students who have already matriculated without Elementary Mathe- matics must pass in this subject at Ordinary Level in the General Certificate examination or in some higher examination before entry to the College Intermediate Sc The subjects for the internal Intermediate Science examination must be chosen from the following list -- Pure Mathematics Botany Applied Mathematics Geography Mathematics Pure and Applied Geology Physics 10 General Physiology Chemistry 11 Psychology Biology 12 Zoology Candidates may offer themselves for examination in three or four subjects one of which must be chosen from 1-5 above They should make sure that the subjects taken satisfy the preliminary requirements for entry to the proposed course Candidates who offer either Pure Mathematics or Applied Mathematics are not permitted to offer also Mathematics Pure and Applied Candidates who offer Botany or Zoology are not permitted to offer also Biology Candidates who offer General Physiology are required also to take Chemistry The College no longer provides courses in preparation for the Intermediate Sc examination except in the subject of Geology It is therefore generally necessary for applicants to pass or gain exemption from the Intermediate examination or otherwise to satisfy the preliminary examination requirements for the proposed course before entry to the College Such qualifications may be obtained through an approved Higher School Certificate or in and after 1951 through General Certificate of Education with passes in appropriate subjects at Advanced Level Exemption from the Intermediate Sc examination is normally granted to candidates who obtain Higher School Certificate with satisfactory passes at main subject standard or the General Certificate of Education with passes at Advanced Level in subjects corresponding to those of the Intermediate Sc examination Exemption in the case of internal students is granted only on the recommendation of the authorities of the College attended Complete Exemption may be gained through Higher School Certificate or General Certificate of Education with passes at satisfactory standard in three or four appropriate main subjects In order to qualify for complete exemption on three Higher Certificate subjects it is essential to have passed in these on one and the same occasion In cases where exemption is gained through the combined results of
