courses OP study 101 Approved Third-Year Courses Suitable courses for third-year students include Research work usually with view to proceeding to higher degree An Honours course Note Students who have passed the General examination may with the sanction of the head of the department concerned present themselves for final honours examination after not less than one year's approved study On the other hand students who are spend- ing third year in the College in this way are not bound to take the examination In order to graduate with General degree it is sufficient for them to have attended an honours course to the satisfaction of the head of the department concerned The University does not recognise as an approved third-year course any course for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education Π-FOR HIGHER DEGREES In addition to Internal Graduates of the University of London External Graduates and Graduates of other Universities are admitted to courses leading to the degrees of and Ph The degree of Lit is awarded not on thesis but on the merits of original pub- lished work not done under direction and no course is prescribed For all details concerning the various Higher Degrees the University Regulations should be consulted Applicants should write in the first place to the head of the department in which their studies lie On entering upon course of postgraduate study it is necessary to enrol with the Sub-Dean of the Faculty ΙΠ-FOR THE POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION course in professional training extending over one session three terms is open to all men and women graduates of recognised uni- versities who are accepted by the Head of the Education Department Details of the Ministry of Education grants tenable in the Department are given below in the section Department of Education IV-FOR THE ACADEMIC DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION AND IN EDUCATION The duration of the course for this Academic Diploma is one year of full-time study or two years of part-time study For the course the corresponding periods are two years and three years respectively Further particulars are given at the end of this Faculty section
