COURSES OF STUDY 99 Conditions of Entry No one can be admitted to the University who is not qualified to matriculate The procedure to be followed in 1952 is the same for all Faculties and is outlined above under General Information on page 42 Before entering the Faculty of Arts of Ring's College all applicants are required to pass the Intermediate examination or to qualify for exemption from it by passes in the General Certificate of Education examination according to the University's requirements The following are the University's conditions for direct entry to post-Intermediate courses for Internal students in Arts -- Three subjects must be passed at Advanced Level All three must he passed on the same occasion and be taken from the University's list of subjects for the Intermediate examination in Arts All applicants for Intermediate exemption through the General Certificate of Education must qualify in classical language at Advanced Level The University regulations provide that candidates who have not secured such pass will be required to enter for special examination in classical language at the end of the first year of their course at the University This College however will continue to require the pass in classical language to he obtained before admission as one of the three subjects at Advanced Level The claim for Intermediate exemption will be made for successful applicants after they have entered the College Intermediate Courses The Special Intermediate Examination formerly held in King's College is discontinued at present together with the courses leading to it Instruction however at Intermediate level is provided in Greek Spanish and Philosophy for those students who although exempt from the Intermediate examination desire to offer those subjects in their final degree examination and have not so far passed beyond the Intermediate stage in them Final Courses Students who enter the College after passing the Intermediate examination or obtaining exemption through Certificate examination will be encouraged to attend in their first year lectures in at least one subject other than those which form an integral part of their degree course Such subjects can be studied at the Intermediate or higher
