IV ANNUAL REPORT OF THE COUNCIL Payments directly due to the war were £200 to the University of Bristol £100 for expenses of removal back to London £30 to the Union Society in addition to the normal grant £207 for maintenance grants to members of the Staff evacuated to Bristol £58 for miscel- laneous evacuation expenses and £83 for War Damage Insurance The debit balance on the year's working was £1 807 which has been charged to the Special Reserve Fund Corporation General Fund Account-The usual sum of £350 was received from the Delegacy for rent of rooms leased to University of London King's College and with other sundry items of income there was balance on the account of £450 which the Council has transferred to the Special Reserve Fund Theological Hall Account-The Hall in Vincent Square remained under requisition by the London County Council as Rest Centre and the rent received made substantial contribution to the standing charges The debit balance was £314 compared with £284 in the previous year The working of the Theological Hall at Bristol resulted in loss of £263 as compared with £97 in the previous year not unsatisfactory result under existing conditions The total deficit of £577 has been charged to the Special Reserve Fund Special Reserve Fund-At the end of the year there was balance in the Fund of £12 477 in addition to £1 481 on Interest Account To this has been added the balance of the Corporation General Fund Account while the deficits on the Theological Department and the Halls have been charged to the Fund leaving total sum of £12 024 available at the commencement of the current session Bursaries The Council again desire to thank the Trustees of the St Mary-le- Strand Charity for the continuance during the session of grants amount- ing to £300 to number of students in the Theological Faculty to enable them to complete their course Conclusion In submitting the report on the fourth and last year of evacuation the Council wishes to express its thanks to the University of Bristol for the facilities it was able to provide the Theological Department and to record its grateful recognition of the kindness and friendship shown to Staff and Students by many Bristol residents The Faculty will return to London with sadly depleted numbers but it is still an efficient organization and the essential features of its life and organization have been maintained during period of great strain and difficulty It is with renewed confidence in the future that it will resume its work in London next session
