ANNUAL REPORT of admissions in all faculties Owing to war damage and to diffi- culties of service only limited provision can be made for Refectory facilities either for staff or students Lack of porters and conditions of black-out will inevitably cause restriction in itself regrettable of Union Society activities It will not be possible for the present to hold public lectures nor will the courses for the Diploma for Journalism Chemical Engineering or Evening Classes in the Faculty of Arts be resumed During the absence of the College in Bristol arrangements had been made for week-end classes in Psychology and Spanish in lieu of the former evening classes in these subjects to be held at Birkbeck College Thanks to the kindness of the authorities of Birkbeck College these classes will be continued during the coming session The day classes in the Department of Spanish which accompanied the rest of the Faculty of Arts into exile will be continued in London but day classes in Psychology will not be reinstituted To consider the problems of post-war academic policy the Professorial Board appointed committee the labours of which are not yet con- eluded The Delegacy at the request of the Senate has prepared reports and submitted evidence to the relevant committees of the University upon the desirability of increasing the residential accommo- dation for men and women students in College or University hostels and upon the desirability of increasing the facilities for the medical educa- tion of women at present available in London The temporary arrange- ment which by agreement with the associated Hospital Medical Schools the College made with West London Hospital in order to help in meeting war-time emergency was given more exact definition in Delegacy Minute of May 11th 1943 The Delegacy resolved that for the present King's College would be prepared to take eight women students who were proceeding to the West London Hospital in every year within the terms laid down in Delegacy Minute of October 28th 1940 three on the nomination of the College and five on the nomination of West London Hospital The agreement would terminate as soon as active hostilities between Great Britain and Germany had ceased provided always that any women who had already been accepted by the College and the Hospital for the October following that date should be given facilities to complete their pre-clinical and clinical courses The Union Society continued to maintain in exile as many of the traditional ceremonies as the conditions of the time allowed Com- memoration Week brought the Michaelmas Term to close The Ser- mon was preached in Bristol Cathedral by the Very Reverend the Dean of Bristol the Oration was delivered by Professor Reed For four years the Faculties of Theology Arts Science and Engineering have been in Bristol Both individually and collectively we have received unwearied kindness from our colleagues in the University and from the citizens of Bristol We return to our home in the Strand with feelings of profound gratitude to our hosts and it may be hoped
