148 jfacult of HDefctcal Science Certain parts of the information and courses given in the following pages are necessarily subject to modification during the war especially the arrangements for lst courses and the courses for Sc Anatomy and Sc Physiology The registrable qualifications in Medicine and Surgery in London are those given by the University of London the Conjoint Board of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians and the Society of Apothecaries Each course is divisible into pre-clinical and clinical period and King's College London provides education in the pre- clinical stage The students proceed to Hospital Medical School for the clinical part of their course Owing to the present difficulty in securing Hospital instruction for women in London the admission of women students is strictly limited and subject to special conditions copy of these conditions can be obtained on application to the Sub-Dean of the Medical Faculty Applications for admission by women students must be sent in between January 15th and February 15th preceding the session in which admission is desired Students normally proceed to one of the following hospitals accord- ing to their personal choice Charing Cross Hospital Strand King's College Hospital Denmark Hill St George's Hospital Hyde Park Corner or Westminster Hospital Horseferry Rd Millbank Prospectuses of these Hospitals may be obtained free and post free on application to the Secretary of the Medical School of each Hospital The pre-clinical years are spent in preparing for the first and second professional examinations The first examination in which the sub- jects are chemistry physics and general biology is taken at the end of three terms one session The professional examination in anatomy physiology and pharmacology is taken at the end of further five terms of study student who has failed to pass all the subjects of an examination within year of the date on which he should sit for that examination will not except for special reasons be allowed to continue his course in the College The scientific subjects in the first year are taught in the Faculty of Natural Science and in fact at King's College students have the ad-
