CLASSES 113 BOTANY AND PLANT BIOLOGY Head of the Department Professor Thomas Abchibald Bennet-Clark Ph I-Intermediate Science -Lectures At least hrs The instruction is based on the syllabus for the Intermediate Sc Examination of the University of London in addition to the special study of the prescribed types consideration is given to the general principles of Plant Morphology Physiology Classification Heredity Cytology Evolution Ecology and Natural History of Plants Y2-Practical Class At least hrs II-B Sc General and Subsidiary -Lectures At least hrs throughout sessions Tho subjects treated are as follows -Morphology and Phytogeny of all the Plant Groups practical applications of Botany Palseophy- tology Plant Physiology and Biochemistry Cytology Genetics Classi- fication and Ecology of Plants Z2-Practical Class hrs throughout sessions Ill-B Sc Special At A2-Two-year courses Lectures at least hrs Laboratory work 12 hrs The courses cover the various aspects of Botany indicated in II above A3-Field Class In Ecology This class meets normally on Saturdays during the Summer and Autumn terms for course of practical work on British Vegetation It is followed by further course lasting one week in July during which some area in England or Wales is studied ecologically Owing to special difficulties it may not be possible to hold tho July course in war-time
