110 FACULTY OF NATURAL SCIENCE CHEMISTRY Head of the Department Arthur John Allmand Sc Daniell Professor Students who have not passed the Intermediate Science Examination before entering the College take one-year course Classes Yj and leading to that examination at the end of the session The courses subsequently attended depend on whether the student is proceeding to the Sc Special degree in Chemistry is proceeding to the Sc General degree with Chemistry as one subject is taking Special degree in another subject with Chemistry as subsidiary subject Sc Special Chemistry Students Students who have passed the Intermediate Science examination and who wish to proceed to an Honours degree with Chemistry as the main subject should consult the Head of the Department The course to be followed lasts two years In both years as much time as possible is spent in the Honours laboratories Physics is required as the subsidiary subject ίί ι Λβ βί ϊ ο Ι ni x2P4"tt iu arrhtei po&wtieal Sc General and Subsidiary Chemistry Students Such students attend in the first session Lecture Classes Z2 and Z41 and in their second session z6 and Ze working six hours per week during each year in the Laboratory Advanced Courses and Research Work Facilities for carrying out research work either independently or under the direction of members of the staff are afforded in the Department Synopsis of Courses I-Intermediate Science -Lectures hrs -Practical Class 120 hrs per session II-B Sc General and Subsidiary Second Year -Physical Chemistry hr -Organic Chemistry hr -Practical Class hrs Z4-Inorganic Chemistry hr Third term only Third Year Z5-Organic Chemistry hr -Inorganic Chemistry hr Z7-Practical Class hrs
