scholarships and exhibitions 53 Candidates must be under 19 years of age on Dec 31st pre- ceding the examination The Scholarship is open to men and women The following are the subjects of the examination -Pure Mathematics Applied Mathematics Physics Chemistry Botany Zoology Geography and Geology Candidates may take any three of these subjects The Scholarship will be awarded to candidate who shows special ability in one or more of the subjects offered The successful candidate will be required to enter the Faculty of Natural Science at King's College as an Internal Student of the University of London in October next following the examination with the understanding that he will proceed to an Honours degree of the University of London The payments will be made in nine terminal instalments pro- vided the Student continues in attendance as Regular Student in the Day Classes and produces to the Secretary at the end of each Term Certificate of good conduct and of satisfactory progress signed by the Dean of the Faculty The next Examination will be held in February by the London Inter-Collegiate Scholarships Board Candidates should apply to Mr Ranner Secretary of the Board King's College Hospital Medical School for form of entry which must be sent in in January Xaigton Science IResearcb Stubentsbip Founded under the will of Charles Edward Layton former Associate and Member of the Council who left sum of money to be devoted to Studentship or Studentships in order to assist such students as may in the opinion of the Principal after consultation with the Pro- fessorial Staff give the best promise of aptitude and genius for original scientific work Studentship of the value of Ā£150 per annum will be awarded each year payable in equal instalments at the end of each Term Any student of the College is eligible for Studentship who has attended for at least six terms regular course for first degree or for corresponding academic qualification of the College The Principal shall request the Head of each Department in the Faculties of Natural Science Medical Science and Engineering to report on any student in his Department whom he may desire to recommend for the Studentship The Head of the Department shall furnish and report on the career and qualifications of the Candidate he recommends and the kind of research he is desirous of undertaking After receiving these reports the Principal shall recommend to the Delegacy Candidate for appointment or shall state that in his opinion there is no candidate of sufficient merit The usual appointment of student will be for two years but the Delegacy shall require report on his progress from the Professor
