ANNUAL REPORT throughout the Session Among the visiting preachers were the Bishops of Chelmsford Croydon and Jerusalem Archdeacon Storr Canon Goudge and Canon Claude Jenkins The preacher at the Commemoration Service at the end of the Michaelmas Term was Canon Sheppard At the Annual Reunion of the Theological Society the preacher was the Bishop of Bradford Two Confirmation Services have been held in the College Chapel during the Session In the Lent term seven members of the College were confirmed by the Archbishop of York and in the Easter Term the Bishop of Kensington confirmed six student members of the College Staff The Council has to record several important changes in the Staff The resignation of Professor Oesterley from the Chair of Hebrew and the Exegesis of the Old Testament became effective at the end of the Session Dr Oesterley succeeded the late Professor Box as Head of the Old Testament Department in 1928 By his gifts as teacher his loyalty as colleague and his great repute as scholar and writer Dr Oesterley has rendered distinguished service to the College He has been appointed Professor Emeritus on his retirement The Council desires to congratulate him upon his recent appointment to Prebendal Stall in St Paul's Cathedral The Reverend Tasker who succeeded the late Professor Bicknell as Head of the New Testament Department in 1933 has been appointed University and College Professor of the Exegesis of the New Testament The Council is confident that Mr Tasker will maintain the high traditions of the Chair both as teacher and scholar Professor Brown who has had temporary charge of the Department of Ecclesiastical History succeeds Professor Oesterley as Head of the Old Testament Department He was appointed University and College Professor of Hebrew and the Exegesis of the Old Testament at the beginning of last Session The Council has made provision for the conduct of the Department of Ecclesiastical History during next Session by the appointment of the Reverend Prank Edgar Croydon to Lectureship in Ecclesias- tical History Mr Croydon was educated at Pembroke College Oxford Although his academic studies were interrupted by war service Mr Croydon took 2nd Class in Honour Moderations and in Lit Hum He was Liddon Student and Denyer and Johnson Scholar Mr Croydon's special interests and qualifications are in the field of mediaeval studies The Council has appointed the Reverend Charles Bernard Mortlock of Jesus College Cambridge to deliver during next Session the course of lectures on Ecclesiastical Art for which the late Professor Dearmer was responsible Reference is made in the Hostel Report to the resignation of the Reverend Abbott Chaplain of the College on his appointment as
