ANNUAL REPORT xliii FACULTY OF ENGINEERING Number of Students Degree Year 35 Year II 42 Year III 27 Diploma only Year II Postgraduate 11 Occasional Chemical Engineering Total 124 Results of Examinations In the Final Examination Part II for the degree of Sc Eng under the scheme of alternative papers the following results were obtained lst Class Honours 2nd Class Honours Pass In addition students took the External Examination and both obtained First Class Honours Eighteen students obtained the College Diploma in Engineering and the College Certificate in Engineering In Part of the Final Examination the results were as follows Passed eligible for Honours Degree 19 Passed eligible for Pass Degree Referred Failed 12 In the Special Intermediate Examination 12 candidates passed and were referred Faculty Notes development in the Faculty during the Session was the institution of course of lectures by Mr Schwartz Sir Ernest Cassel Lecturer in Commerce in the University of London on The Structure and Organisation of Industry for third-year and postgraduate students The lectures were given each Monday morning during the first term and were very well attended and it is hoped that the course will be per- manent feature of the curriculum They were followed in the second term by shorter course on Works Organisation by Dr Davies DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERING Of the students taking Civil Engineering subjects in the Final Examination obtained First Class Honours including one in the External Examination and Second Class Honours Of the students
