xl ANNUAL REPORT Oenothera resulting from the genetic survey have been distributed to each of the following institutions Gray Herbarium Harvard Univer- sity New York Botanical Gardens University of Montreal DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY Number of Students Intermediate Science 25 lst 83 Conjoint 21 Sc General 10 Sc Subsidiary 12 Sc Special 15 Postgraduate Occasional Total 173 In addition 11 Honours students from other colleges attended Pro- fessor Mackinnon intercollegiate course on Parasitic Protozoa Results of Examinations Seven candidates entered for the Sc Special Examination in Zoology Of these was awarded First Class Honours Second Class Honours Pass Degree and failed Eight candidates took Zoology as one of their subjects in the Sc General Examination Of these were awarded Second Class Honours although were First Class candidates in Zoology were awarded Pass Degree although one of these obtained Second in Zoology and failed Five candidates took Zoology as Subsidiary subject and all but one passed Departmental Notes The chief development was the equipment of small laboratory for physiological work in connection with the teaching of Special Honours students and these received instruction in it throughout the Easter Term Further increase in the size of the Honours Class has put severe tax upon laboratory accommodation and the need for an Honours lecture room is pressing The maximum number of Special and General Honours students for whom provision can be made has been reached It is worth noticing that applications from outside by promis- ing students who have passed the equivalent of the Intermediate Examination is on the increase and as such students will normally spend three years over their Honours course admissions to Honours from the Special Intermediate Class will be correspondingly reduced
