ANNUAL REPORT xxxvii Geography Arts and Science-lst Year Day Evening 2nd Year Day Evening 3rd Year Day Evening Academic Diploma in Geography -14 34 31 34 11 Total 166 255 Total number of students in the Department Results of Examinations Sc Special Geography lst Class Honours 2nd Class Honours Pass KV Honours Geography lst Class 2nd Class 3rd Class Ph Geology Owen Contributions to the Geology and Morphology of the Carboniferous Rocks of North Cornwall and North Devon The Department has assumed the bulk of the instruction in Mathe- matical Geography formerly undertaken by the Department of Civil Engineering This has involved the institution of an Assistant Lecture- ship in place of the Demonstratorship as at present established The Annual Field Classes held during the Easter Vacation again proved source of attractive instruction to the students The Geological Class visited Edinburgh and some twenty-six students availed themselves of the opportunity The Geographical Class to Taunton was attended by twenty-one students and is an integral part of the Honours Course The students themselves organised vacation trip to Austria and this attracted many past as well as present students of the Department In addition the senior students in Geology have resuscitated the Lyell Club and have arranged an attractive programme of meetings and field excursions During the year Professor Gordon acted as Senior Secretary to the Geological Society and as member of council of the Palaeontographical Society the British Association and Westfield College He was also invited to act as External Examiner in Geology for the University of Wales and gave special course of lectures to the Architectural Associ- ation Higher Degree Departmental Notes
