ANNUAL REPORT XXXI Departmental Notes Professor Aveling continued his lectures at the Maudsley Hospital to candidates for the Diploma in Psychological Medicine and attended the Fifth Congress of Universities of the British Empire held at Cambridge as representative of the Universities of Canada on the Executive Council of the Universities Bureau of the British Empire Mr Bartlett was elected Vice-President of Section Psychology of the British Association for the Advancement of Science At meeting of the British Psychological Society held in the Depart- ment papers were communicated by the following students Miss Hall and Mr Raven Sc and demonstrations of apparatus and experimentation were given by Dr Lowe and Mr Uttley Sc New apparatus for the investigation of the Phi phenomenon and of the influence of conation upon the apprehension of liminal auditory stimuli was constructed in the laboratory It is of interest to note the increasing attendance of Medical students in the Department The following apparatus books and periodicals have been presented to the Department -Townson and Mercer Resistance Box by Dr Caws books belonging to the late Tayler Laboratory Attendant by Miss Tayler and The Human Factor by Professor Aveling DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION Number of Students The total number of students enrolled in the Department for the Session was 125 91 read for the Teacher's Diploma and the remaining 34 for higher Degrees Results of Teacher's Diploma Examination Of the 91 students 40 men and 51 women who entered for the Post- graduate Course of Professional Training 89 sat for the Teacher's Diploma Examination Of these 78 passed man and women passed in Theory but were referred in Practical Teaching while men and women passed in Practical Teaching but were referred in Theory Higher Degrees Lit Nicholas Hans for works on Comparative Education and History of Education Ph Chatterji Comparative Study in the Methods employed in England and France for the Grouping of Children and Young Persons in different Types of Schools Henry Cloke History of Wesleyan Education with Distinction Gray Review of the University System of Germany during the Weimar Republic Humphreys The Genesis of the American System of Vocational Education
