XXII ANNUAL REPORT Smith Medical Officer at the Platanes during the past Session has been appointed to succeed Dr Gilpin as Warden Mr Aylett has been appointed Medical Officer King's College Hostel for Women -Miss Brittain Tutor to Women Students and Warden of the Women's Hostel resigned her office of Warden at the end of the Session Miss Priscilla Boys Smith has been appointed to succeed Miss Brittain as Warden In the Michaelmas Term there were fifty-five students in residence and no vacancies Of the fifty-five students eleven were in receipt of the Board of Education's grant for the training of teachers and seven were State Scholars 13 College Societies and Activities The Session has been one of outstanding activity both on the part of the Union Society as whole and of many of the College societies The prominent success of the year was Commemoration Week which was due to the keen interest of the College as whole and the thorough organisation of the Commemoration Week Committee The Oration was given by Dr Glover Public Orator in the University of Cambridge The Ball which has become very popular was held for the third time at the Waldorf Hotel The Musical and Dramatic Society presented as the Commemoration Play Squire's and Balderston's Berkeley Square This was new venture in Commemoration Plays and it was generally acclaimed as great success The celebrations ended with the Supper and Dance when the Principal's Cup was presented to the Faculty of Arts In the Lent Term the Musical and Dramatic Society gave the annual operatic performance the opera on this occasion being Love in Village by William Arne The work of the Union Society sub-committees proceeded smoothly in arranging dances debates etc Debates have notably improved during the past Session Good speakers who were formerly the exception are now the rule and King's students represented the University of London Union in two important debates Great enthusiasm was shown when the visiting team from North Carolina came to King's College With regard to sport King's succeeded in winning eight cups and sharing one the Rosebery Cup for Athletics and share in the Lady Busk Cup the Intercollegiate Cup for Association Football the Allom Cup for Rowing the Burrows Cup for Machine Gun Drill the Bull Cup for Guard Mounting and the Cup for General Efficiency which were won by the with outstanding distinction the Engineers' Cup for Shooting and the John Blott Cup for Boxing Besides these achievements the Intercollegiate Cross-Country Race was won in fine style by King's and the Hockey Club were successful in the Intercollegiate Knock-out Competition Four men were included in the University Hockey Team touring Germany during the
