XX ANNUAL REPORT of storage space for the new catalogue cards inevitably cause con- siderable difficulties in carrying out this work which however is an indispensable preliminary to any moving of the Library to new premises 10 Finance The Block Grant from the Court was £61 285 as in the previous year but the Home Counties' Grant received through the Court was £58 more at £2 629 The Court also renewed the grant of £600 in support of the Chair of Imperial History which they had made in the previous year on the cessation of the grant from the Rhodes Trustees The Fee Income was £68 331 decrease of £463 on the previous year but other- wise considerably more than anything previously received under this heading As result of the continued high level of the fee income it has been possible to devote substantial sum to capital purposes £4 413 was spent on the completion of the South East Block by the extension of and the provision of new equipment for the Honours Chemistry Laboratories and £1 000 was transferred to the Reconstruc- tion Fund During the year £6 955 was spent on Repairs and General Mainten- ance of College Buildings This included £1 713 spent on Repairs and Improvements of an exceptional nature Of these the more important were general repairs to the external stonework of the building repairs to the roof of the hut on the Terrace now used as Physics Laboratory provision of Laboratory in Zoology for animal physiology improve- ments in the lecture theatre and provision of an additional research laboratory in the Department of Physiology together with improve- ment of the ventilation in several parts of the College Last year it was recorded that the Corporation of King's College London made con- tribution towards the exceptionally heavy cost incurred by the Delegacy in carrying out essential repairs on this occasion it has to be recorded that the Delegacy have made contribution of £50 towards the heavy expenses incurred by the Corporation in carrying out extensive repairs and making alterations in the Chapel The College was again able to make substantial provision for apparatus for the laboratories and spent £1 113 on this account the bulk of which was provided out of Revenue The total Income for the year amounted to £143 592 and the Ex- penditure to £143 125 leaving credit balance of £467 which has been transferred to the Reconstruction Fund 11 Benefactions The Leverhulme Trustees have established Research Studentship in Chemical Engineering of the value of £250 per annum to enable the holder to take an advanced course of study or conduct original research in Chemical Engineering An anonymous donor presented to the College the sum of £1 000
