ANNUAL REPORT Faculty of Arts 597 625 of whom 510 542 were taking course for Degree and 87 83 course for Diploma in the Faculty of Natural Science 349 320 of whom 348 320 were taking course for Degree in the Faculty of Medical Science 424 402 of whom 271 240 were taking course for Degree and 153 162 the Examinations of the Conjoint Board in the Faculty of Engineering 105 101 of whom 104 101 were taking course for Degree in the Faculty of Laws 74 61 all of whom were taking course for Degree and in the Faculty of Theology 207 231 of whom 69 62 were taking course for Degree and the remainder course for Diploma In the six Faculties there were thus 756 740 full-time under- graduate day students In addition there were 246 238 evening students taking course for Degree 136 152 in the Faculty of Arts in the Faculty of Natural Science 95 81 in the Faculty of Laws and in the Faculty of Theology There were also 213 238 students of whom 116 137 were full-time and 97 101 part-time taking course for Higher Degree in one or other of the various Faculties and 91 100 taking full-time course for the Teacher's Diploma In addition were taking other postgraduate courses and 15 13 students were engaged in independent research There were also in the College 126 147 part-time students day and evening who were taking course for first Diploma In addition there were 157 177 occasional students who were attending lectures not leading to Degree or Diploma The Gilbert Lectures on Banking delivered at the College were attended by 400 400 persons and 916 005 took the Examina- tion there were 411 476 students in attendance at Intercollegiate lectures Studies The following results were obtained at the Final Examinations In the Faculty of Arts 13 students compared with 16 last year in English in French in Spanish in Geography in History and in Classics-were placed in the First Class In the Faculty of Laws students compared with last year were placed in the First Class In the Faculty of Natural Science 14 students compared with 17 last year -3 in Physics in Chemistry in Zoology in Geography and in Mathematics-were placed in the First Class In the Faculty of Engineering 10 students compared with last year were placed in the First Class The total number of students in all Faculties except that of Theology who were awarded First Class in Honours was 39 compared with 39 last year Among the changes mentioned in last year's Report was the scheme for providing new Library building by the addition of two new storeys on the southern half of the roof of the College to accommodate new laboratories for Botany Zoology Pharmacology and Plvysiology
