iv ANNUAL REPORT The following gracious reply was received through the Keeper of the Privy Purse am commanded by The King to inform you that His Majesty has been graciously pleased to grant his Patronage to King's College The Delegacy The Delegacy regret to record the deaths of three of their colleagues- Mr Allen Mr Edwardes Jones and Sir Ronald Wilberforce-Allen Mr Allen who died on October 3rd 1935 and Mr Edwardes Jones who died on February 5th 1936 were friends of the College of long standing and had for many years taken leading part in shaping its policy The following resolutions in appreciation of their great services are recorded upon the Minutes of the Delegacy The Delegacy have learned with deep sorrow of the death of Mr Archibald John Allen on October 3rd Mr Allen first became interested in the College in 1907 when in response to sermon preached by Dr Headlam then Principal of the College in the Temple Church he characteristically volunteered to give financial help to deserving students of the College who desired to train for the Ministry In 1910 he became member of the Council and in 1920 Life-Governor of the College in succession to Sir Charles Lyall He joined the Theological Committee in 1913 and became its Vice-Chairman in 1920 He became member of the Delegacy in 1922 and has been its Vice-Chairman since 1923 Mr Allen wholeheartedly devoted not only his wealth but also his great personal gifts of intellect and character to public service He was for three years Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kensington and he initiated and raised the funds for the children's hospital in North Kensington of which he was until recently Chairman To both sides of King's College he gave liberal though unostentatious financial help and both sides of the College have reason to be even more grateful to him for his unremitting interest and staunch support He helped by his wisdom and assiduity in counsel to guide the destinies of the College as whole through difficult period to its present prosperity His mastery of detail his lawyer's training his level judgment and his experience in public affairs were placed unreservedly at its service and his wisdom will be sadly missed both in the Council and the Delegacy The Delegacy mourn also the loss of member whose character up- Tightness and humour gave him special place of personal affection in the hearts of his colleagues and they would wish to convey to Mrs Allen the expression of their deep sympathy with her in her irreparable loss The Delegacy desire to place on record their deep sense of loss by the death on February 5th 1936 of Mr George Morgan Edwardes Jones Fellow of the College He was first appointed as their
