278 FACULTY OF THEOLOGY both Hebrew and Philosophy Those reading for Honours may be excused examination in either Hebrew or Philosophy student who does not give satisfaction in the Annual Examina- tions may be obliged to repeat one or more terms' work Students who are prevented by illness from taking any of their examinations are required to send doctors certificate to the Dean and write to the Professor or Lecturer who sets the paper They shall further appear before the Board at the beginning of the ensuing term and must be prepared for viva voce examination on the work of the past term -No student is allowed without special permission to sit for the final Examination and the Bishop's Examination for Deacon's Orders in the same Term HOODS Under the special sanction dated March 26 1862 of the late Arch- bishop Sumner permission to wear distinctive Hood was given to Associates of this Faculty in Holy Orders Under the further sanction of the Archbishop of Canterbury dated March 188S this Hood must be conformable to the general pattern approved for Theological Colleges by the Upper House of Convocation of the Province of Canterbury on February 15 1882 The Hood as approved by the Archbishop of Canterbury in 1909 is of the Cambridge shape of black poplin and is lined both inside and outside with one inch of mauve silk The Silk Hood formerly in use may still be worn by those who purchased it before February 15 1882 but may not be worn by any others The College Cap and Gown which are worn by all Regular Students and the College Hood may be purchased from Messrs Northam and Co Henrietta Street Covent Garden or from Messrs Ede Son and Ravenscroft 93 and 94 Chancery Lane They are prohibited from supplying any Hood except in accordance with the Regulations and Students have no right to wear any Hood which is not in accordance with these Regulations The Hood for the Degree is described in the University Calendar and may be obtained from Messrs Northam or Messrs Ede NOTES FOR INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS The Set Books to be used are Ethios Plato's Republic English translation Golden Treasury Series Macmillan Company Xenophon Memorabilia Book Cicero De Senectute Greek Test St Mark omitting VII to VIII 26
