232 FACULTY OF ENGINEERING PHYSICS Experimental Physics Yj -Intermediate Course Heat Magnetism and Eleotricity Two lectures per week -Practical Work in Heat Magnetism and Electricity One half-day per week The Wheatstone Physical Laboratory Students who are desirous of acquiring further knowledge of any special branches have an opportunity of doing so under the superin- tendence of the Wheatstone Professor and the Staff The Wheatstone Laboratory is open to Students from 10 to every day except Saturday for practical study and research in all branohes of Physics CHEMISTRY AND ENGINEERING METALLURGY Intermediate Lectures and Laboratory Ys Courses in Chemistry are provided Whilst they are designed on broad lines an attempt is made to deal in more detail with those subjects of particular importance to engineers Lecture Course Zj in Engineering Metallurgy combined with Laboratory Work z2 is held during the Michaelmas and Lent Terms Synopsis of Classes Chemistry Ī„ -Intermediate Lectures Two lectures per week Ys -Intermediate Practical Class One half-day per week Engineering Metallurgy Zj -Lectures The constitution and microstructure of the Iron- Carbon alloys and the principal non-ferrous alloys Detailed study of selected alloys including plain carbon steels alloy steels brasses bronzes aluminium alloys bearing metals The influence of mechanical and heat treatment on the structure and properties of these materials The investigation of defects and failures Specifications z2 -laboratory Metallographic study of the alloys dealt with in the lectures including preparation of the necessary specimens Heat treatment POST-GRADUATE COURSES Civil Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Advanced Courses suitable for those who have already completed Diploma or Degree Course in Engineering may be arranged each Course occupying Student's whole time for Session
