208 faculty of engineering The College provides preliminary Workshop training in the First Year see 236 Matriculation Before entering the Faculty to study for the Degree in Engineering it is necessary to have matriculated in the University of London Detailed particulars of the Matriculation Examination and information concerning exemption therefrom may be obtained from the Secretary to the Matriculation and School Examinations Council University of London It is desirable that the subjects of Matriculation should include Chemistry Elementary Mathematics and Modern Foreign Language Students who have not passed the Matriculation Examination of the University of London may apply for permission to attend the regular degree oourses but such students will be eligible only for the College Diploma or Certificate in Engineering and will be required to pass before entry the College Entrance Examination Particulars of this Examination are given on 214 INTERMEDIATE SCIENCE Engineering First-year Students take the Courses for the Intermediate Examina- tion Five subjeots are required as follows Pure Mathematics One of the following subjects Applied Mathematics Sound and Optics Physics Heat Electricity and Chemistry Magnetism Geology Engineering Drawing Instruction in this subject is not given in the College to Engineering Students For full particulars syllabus etc see the University Regulations in the Faculty of Engineering for Internal Students student who has been referred in any subject may sit for the examination in that subject as an Internal student either in November or in June Candidates wishing to take the examination in November should consult the College Registrar with regard to their entry student who fails in the Intermediate Examination in June is not allowed to sit again before the following June student who fails to sit for the Intermediate Examination at the appropriate time or fails in four subjects of the examination will not except for special reasons be allowed to repeat the course Students who have passed the Intermediate Sc Science or an examination exempting therefrom and who propose to enter the Second Year Engineering Course are advised to consult the Dean as to the additional requirements for the Intermediate Sc Engineering Ac- commodation will be provided during the month of September for students who wish to begin the preparation of the additional subjects before the opening of the session
