191 faculty of ilDeMcal Science Dean of the Faculty Professor McDowall Sc Edin Vice-Dean Professor Nicol Sc Ed Sub-Dean and Tutor Mr Stibbe The registrable qualifications in Medicine and Surgery in London are those given by the University of London the Conjoint Board of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians and the Society of Apothecaries Each Course is divisible into pre-clinical and clinical period and King's College London provides education in the Pre-clinical stage The students proceed to Hospital Medical School for the clinical part of their course or may stay an extra year at College and take Science degree The Pre-clinical years are spent in preparing for the First and Second Professional Examinations The First examination consisting of chemistry physics botany and zoology is taken at the end of three terms one year In the case of students another examina- tion in organic chemistry 2nd Part is taken at the end of five terms The Professional examination in anatomy physiology and pharmacology is taken at the end of the eighth term of study It is of interest to note that as the scientific subjects of the First Professional Examination are taught in the large Department of Science and at King's College students have the advantage of studying for their first three years in association with students of all faculties Subject to the approval of the Dean of the Faculty regular student of the College may take any one class not being laboratory class in any other Faculty without extra fee Many students take advan- tage of this facility The courses are normally open to women students on the same terms as to men but owing to the present difficulty in securing Hospital instruction for women in London the admission of women students is temporarily subject to special conditions copy of these can be obtained on application to the Dean of the Medical Faculty Applica- tions for admission by women students must be sent in between January 15th and February 15th preceding the Session in which admission is desired Students normally proceed to the following hospitals King's College Hospital Westminster Hospital St George's Hospital or Charing Cross Hospital
