faculty of arts 109 The College does not provide courses in the following General Degree subjects -Italian Dutch Scandinavian Slavonic and Oriental Lan- guages Anthropology History of Art Economics Music Three papers are set in each subject and the pass list is published in three divisions Honours are not awarded The HONOURS DEGREE may be taken in any one of the following branches but except in the case of Classics History Mathe- matics and Philosophy the candidate will be required to take sub- sidiary subject also The Course for the Honours Degree in Mathematics is planned on three-year basis but special arrange- ments will be made for students who are obliged to complete the course in two years candidate for admission to an Honours Course will be required to show evidence of ability to profit by the course Classics Spanish Latin Portuguese Greek Philosophy Mathematics Pure and Applied Psychology English History French Geography German An optional examination in Advanced Subjects may be taken either at the same time as the Degree Examination or in subsequent year Successful Candidates will be certified as having satisfied the Examiners or as having obtained Distinction in the Advanced Subjects The College does not provide Honours courses in the following subjects -Archaeology Italian Dutch Scandinavian Languages Russian and other Slavonic Languages Indo-Aryan Arabic Persian Hebrew and Aramaic Chinese Japanese Sociology Anthropology History of Art Candidates who have taken the General Examination may present themselves for Honours in any one branch after having attended further approved course of study extending over not less than one year Candidates who have taken the Honours Exam- ination may take second branch after further approved course of study extending over at least one year Approved Third-Year Courses Students who pass their final degree examination after two years of internal registration are awarded the Degree only after third year spent on course approved by the University Before sitting for their final examination such students should inform the College Registration Clerk of the course they propose to take Suitable courses for student in the Faculty of Arts include- Research work usually with view to obtaining Higher Degree An Honours course not already taken The University does not recognise as an approved third-year course the Teacher's Diploma Course offered by the Education Department
