ANNUAL REPORT xxxix member of the Board of Education Advisory Committee on Education for the Engineering Industry He acted as Secretary of Section of the British Association for the meeting in South Africa in 1929 Dr Davies continued to serve on the University Research Panel of the Aeronautical Research Committee during the Christmas vacation he delivered course of lectures at the Technische Hochschule Berlin and he was appointed Secretary of Section of the British Association for the meeting at Bristol in 1930 Department op Electrical Engineering The number of students in the Department was 49 of whom 24 were in the Second Year 20 in the Third Year were Post-graduate students and were taking the course of study in Chemical Engineering Research work was actively carried on some of the results of which are indicated by the publications mentioned in Appendix III Mr Blake presented the Department with valuable X-ray apparatus on the completion of his research Mr Lipman an old student presented an Alternating Current Ampere Meter and Relay and the Morogoro Trading Company presented Vox-veritas loud-speaker Instruments and apparatus for Alternating and Direct Current measurements were purchased for the Laboratory Professor Wilson continued to act as member of the Council of the Institution of Electrical Engineers and served on various Institution Committees He also continued his chairmanship of the Board of Studies in Electrical Engineering Under his chairmanship of the Permanent Magnet Panel of the British Engineering Standards Association an important section of the work of the Panel was com- pleted he was also engaged upon further work for the Association as Chairman of the Panel on Graphical Symbols for Electric Traction Professor Wilson delivered the lecture on Engineering in the course of public lectures on The Contribution of King's College to the Advancement of Learning during the Century 1829-1928 course of three special lectures was given by Mr Marshall Sc on Electrical Transmission by Overhead Lines PUBLIC LECTURES Michaelmas Term 1929 -The principal course of lectures arranged for this term consisted of eight lectures on The Contribution of King's College to the Advancement of Learning during the Century 1829- 1928 The subjects of the lectures and the names of the lecturers were as follows Theology and Philosophy the Rev Canon Claude Jenkins History Professor Hearnshaw Language and Literature Professor Reed The Physical Sciences Professor Ε Appleton Medical Science Professor Blair Engineering Professor Ernest Wilson
