ANNUAL REPORT XXV Department of Modern Greek There were two regular students in the Department during the Session both studied written and spoken Modern Greek Public lectures were given in King's College in each term of the Session see pp xxxix-xlii In addition Professor Marshall gave lantern lecture on Delphi Delos and Olympia at the Lady Eleanor Holies' School Hackney School of Slavonic and East European Studies Number of Students Post-graduate 14 Pass Com Elementary 42 Seminar and Occasional 49 Total 108 Results of Examinations One student taking Russian in the Diploma for Journalism success- fully passed his examination in the summer Higher Degrees Ph Mr Stojanovic Serbia and the Diplomatic Relations of the Powers 1868-78 Ph Mr Josip Torbarina Ragusan Poetry in the sixteenth century with special reference to Italian Influence Ph Mr Pavlovsky jointly with the London School of Economics Agricultural Russia on the Eve of the Revolution This thesis has been published by Messrs George Routledge with the aid of grant from the Publication Fund of the University of London Researches Members of the Staff were actively engaged in research some of the results of which will be found in Appendix III Departmental Notes Both the School and the relevant Board of Studies have now received the title Slavonic and East European Studies Negotiations are in progress with regard to making provision for Hungarian and Finnish studies The work of the Union Catalogue including Slavonic books in other libraries continues to be prosecuted by Mr Wharton Arrangements have been made for closer co-operation with the School of Oriental Studies
