XX ANNUAL REPORT Depabtmbnt or English Number of Students Intermediate Pass and Subsidiary Honours Diploma Journalism Post-graduate Totals Day 92 21 95 22 60 14 47 30 122 11 Results of Examinations In the Final Honours Examination 32 students obtained degrees being placed in the First Class 18 in the Second Class in the Upper Division and 12 in the Third Class Eleven students gained the University Diploma Day in English Language and Literature being awarded marks of Distinction In the Sessional Examination for Evening Diploma Students lst 2nd and 3rd Year 83 students passed 30 being awarded Certificates of Merit and mark of special Distinction Higher Degrees Ph Mr Golding The Life and Works of the Elizabethan Dramatist John Day Ph Mr Gourvitch The Life and Works of Michael Drayton with particular reference to the Polyolbion and its Sources Ph Mr Peter The Anglo-Saxon and Sanskrit Epic External Mr Ronald Mitchell Departmental Notes Mr Isaacs lectured in July on Contemporary Literature at the Summer Course of the University of Paris Journalism Diploma Sixty students were registered for the Diploma 19 in the Second Year and 41 in the First-a large increase over previous years In the final examination for the University Diploma for Journalism 10 King's College students gained the Diploma one being awarded marks of distinction in four subjects of the 13 students who were credited at the end of their First Year with one subject of the examination were from King's College The Courses in Practical Journalism were held during the Session in the new room provided for Journalism students in the East Wing where special library is being formed
