xviii ANNUAL REPORT were published during the Session It is gratifying result of these changes that instead of being as previously source of expense the Review this year contributed profit to the Society's funds In appreciation of their work during the Centenary year Life Member- ship of the Society was conferred upon Mr Walker President 1929-30 Mr Poulden and Mr Cartwright Vice- Presidents 1929-30 Miss Ο Bostock Senior Woman Student 1929-30 and Mr Wooldridge Hon Secretary 1929-30 Upon his retirement from the Chair of Electrical Engineering Professor Ernest Wilson was also elected an Honorary Life Member of the Union Society in token of the affection and regard in which he is held by all its members In Sport the College teams again suffered from the prominence of their members in University athletics The College has supplied this year large number of purples and nearly every branch of the University Athletic Union has had King's man or woman as one at least of its officers It is an inevitable result that the frequent absences of the best players at University matches have made it difficult to pull the College sides together The College Sports were held at Mitcham on May 10th In spite of inclement weather successful afternoon was marked by the setting up of three new College records The University of London Officers' Training Corps has had success- ful year and the official inspection reports received from the War Office upon the various units are without exception extremely grati- fying To this success the College has contributed its share The number of Officer Cadets was 165 the same as last year 92 attended the camps of their respective units no less than 76 were successful in obtaining Certificate and 16 were awarded Certificate Within the Union Society good deal of useful work is being done for perfecting the machinery to secure the smoother more efficient and more economical working of the constituent societies while efforts to improve the co-operation with the University Union Society the University Athletic Union and the National Union of Students have met with considerable success The increased numbers of students in the College and the limited amount of space available for social activities have made necessary some reorganisation of regulations In giving effect to the new rules and regulations the Union Society has given material help by recognising the increased importance of the office of Fixtures Secretary through whose hands in future all applications for the allotment of rooms for social functions will in the first instance pass good deal of confusion and consequent friction has been caused in the past by the fact that few ascertainable rules existed beyond dis- putable precedents and that individual applications with regard to social activities were made personally to the Principal whose undivided attention could not invariably be given to the investigation of the particular circumstances To remedy this confusion existing custom has now been codified after very careful investigation in series of
