ANNUAL REPORT Vll Sir Arthur Sloggett student of the College from 1875 to 1879 and from 1921 to 1928 Colonel Commandant of the Rev John Twentyman for many years master in the School Fellows op the College The following were appointed Fellows of the College Professor Cock formerly student in the Evening Depart- ment Lecturer in Education from 1906 to 1920 and now Professor of Education at University College Southampton Sir John Harrowing formerly student in the Evening Department of the College now Chairman of the Harrowing Steamship Company Limited and High Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1928-29 Brigadier-General Magnus Mowat who was student of the College in the Applied Science Department and President of the Old Students' Association 1925-27 Sir Lulham Pound Bart member of the Delegacy and Treasurer of the Council of King's College Professor Samuel Smiles Sc Daniell Professor of Chemistry at King's College since 1920 Distinctions and Appointments Gained by Past and Present Members of the College Fellows -A barony was conferred on Sir Charles Wakefield Bart LL who was for some years member of the Delegacy and who acted as Vice-Chairman of the Centenary Commemoration Committee II Staff -Professor Richardson was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics for 1928 for the discovery of the fundamental physical law known as the Richardson law 's which governs the motion of electrons emanating from hot bodies This formula con- stitutes the basis of the action of the wireless valve upon which wireless telephony and broadcasting depend The only previous case of the award to member of the College was that of Professor Barkla who was Professor Richardson's immediate predecessor in the Wheat- stone Chair of Physics Professor Richardson also received the Hon Degree of LL from the University of St Andrews and the Hon Degree of Sc from the University of Leeds The following Degrees were also conferred upon members of the Staff during the Session Professor Major-General Sir Frederick Maurice Lit University of London Miss Oakeley Lit University of London Mr Davies Ph University of London Miss Page Ph University of Cambridge Miss Pension Phil University of Oxford Mr Meyendorff Hon University of Durham Dr Matthews Dean of King's College was appointed Canon Theologian of Liverpool
