UNIVERSITY OF LONDON KING'S COLLEGE ANNUAL REPORT OF THE DELEGACY FOR THE SESSION 1929-30 Presented to the SENATE of the UNIVERSITY OF LONDON GENERAL REPORT The Delegacy The Delegacy received with great regret the resignations of Sir Gomer Berry Bart and of the Rev Canon Swallow They also regret to record that Canon Swallow whose resignation was due to reasons of health died few months after his retirement As teacher headmaster and afterwards as member of the London County Council Canon Swallow made notable contribution to the educational progress of the country and to him the College owes great debt for the skill and wisdom which he brought to the counsels of the Governing Body over period of many years The following appointments to the Delegacy were made by the Senate in the course of the Session --Lt -Colonel Sir Arnold Talbot Wilson Lady Ampthill Sir Harry Evan Cotton CLE nominated by the Professor Jameson was nominated by the Professorial Board of King's College in succession to Professor Cook Changes in the Staff The number of changes in the Staff has been exceptional For some the rules defining the age of retirement from University posts were responsible for others as will be seen by comparison with the list of distinctions and appointments on pp vii-ix the cause has been due to the promotion of younger members of the Staff to posts of greater importance elsewhere Death of Sir Israel GoUancz -The close of the Summer Term was saddened by the great loss sustained by the College by the death upon the eve of his retirement of Professor Sir Israel Gollancz The follow- ing resolution of the Delegacy indicates something of the debt which the College owes to the loyal and devoted services of one of the oldest members of the Staff The Delegacy has learned with great sorrow of the death of Pro- fessor Sir Israel Gollancz During his long tenure of the Chair of English Literature many generations of pupils have
