FACULTY OF ENGINEERING 219 Equilibrium of body under three forces moments centres of gravity Pressures of liquids Archimedes Principle Elementary Physics including heat light electricity and magnetism Elementary Chemistry including the principal properties ο matter the laws of chemical affinity atomic weights valency and the chemistry of the principal inorganic elements This Examination is also recognised by the Council of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers as exempting from the Studentship Examina- tion of that Institution The Council of the Institution of Civil Engineers recognize this Examination as exempting from their Preliminary Examinations FIRST YEAR EXAMINATION This Examination is identical with the University Intermediate Engineering Examination For subjects see 212 SECOND YEAR EXAMINATION The courses for and subjects of this Examination are identical with those of the Part Degree Examination see 213 Candidates for the Diploma are required to pass in Strength and Elasticity of Materials and in Mathematics and in at least four of the remaining subjects of this Examination Candidates for the Certificate must pass in any five of the subjects of this Examination THIRD YEAR EXAMINATION The courses for and subjects of this Examination are identical with those of the Part II Degree Examination see 214 Candidates for the Diploma are required to pass in not less than five of the subjects in one of the Groups or and to attain standard of marks in the combined Second and Third Year Examinations equivalent to at least Second Class Candidates for the Certificate are required to pass in not less than four of the subjects in one of the Groups or The Diploma is accepted by the Institution of Civil Engineers as exempting from Sections and Β of the Associate Membership Examination provided that Mathematics is taken as subject in Part and Part II the Examination in modern foreign language has been passed either at the Entrance Examination or Matriculation Examination or at some later stage The Diploma is accepted by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers as exempting from Sections and Β of the Associate Membership Examination
