218 FACULTY OF ENGINEERING Associate Students of the University Students taking courses for the Diploma or Certificate other than Degree Students may apply for registration through the College as Associate Students of the University The application for registra- tion accompanied by fee of 10 6d must be made within three months of the commencement of the course Matriculated students and those already pursuing course in April 1931 may register with- out fee No student may register as an Associate Student who is also registered as an Internal or External student card will be sent by the Academic Registrar notifying the student of his registra- tion On completion of the course Certificate that the course has been completed will be issued on application through the College to the University COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION This Examination must be passed by all who have not passed the London Matriculation Exam or its equivalent and wish to obtain the full privileges of Regular Students It is held at the commencement of each Academical Year during the month preceding the opening of the College for the Michaelmas Term For time table of the Examina- tion see 237 Candidates must intimate to the Secretary the subjects they propose to take at least one week before the Examina- tion commences and must send him at the same time the Examination fee of Ā£1 Is Syllabus of Examination English one Paper time allowed hours general Paper comprising questions in Geography History and Literature Pube Mathematics two Papers time allowed hours for each Arithmetic Igebra including graphs indices logarithms and progressions but excluding the Binomial Theorem Geometry subject matter of Euclid I-IV together with the properties of similar triangles Trigonometry relations between the trigonometrical ratios of an acute angle and their use in the solution of right-angled triangles mensuration of circular arcs and areas Two of the following alternative subjects time allowed hours for each Paper Note -For Students in the Faculty of Engineering modern language should be taken to comply with the regulations of the Institution of Civil Engineers Languages Translation Prose Composition and Grammar Latin Greek French German Italian Spanish Russian Elementary Mechanics uniform acceleration parallelogram of velocities momentum force energy work
