iv ANNUAL REPORT of Ā£2000 will be necessary to put the organ in state of permanent efficiency The Council have not seen their way to incur debt at this time for the purpose and have postponed action but the position is that the organ may break down altogether unless some reconstruction is taken in hand soon Divinity lectures for members of other faculties were given by the Dean Professor Oesterley and the Rev Hollis The attendance at the lectures was satisfactory 122 men and 94 women took the examination and 107 men and all the women candidates passed In accordance with the decision of the Council prize was offered in each faculty for women as well as for men Prizes were awarded in all faculties except that of Engineering No candidates among the women medical students reached the prize standard Public Lectures In the Michaelmas Term seven public lectures on Dogma were given by members of the Theological Faculty with the assistance of Dr Franks These lectures have now been revised and enlarged and published under the title Dogma in History and Thought Nisbet Three public lecture recitals were arranged by Professor Dearmer In the Lent Term the Burge Memorial Lecture was delivered by the Archbishop of Upsala on The Church and Peace The Archbishop of Canterbury was in the chair Three lectures were given by Dr Stanley Cook on The Religion of the Old Testament and three lectures by Dr Galloway on Religion and the Transcendent Both these courses were Advanced University Lectures In the Easter Term Dr Oman gave three University Lectures on The Study of Religion and in the same term there were three lectures and recitals of ecclesiastical music arranged by Professor Rogers University Degrees Etc The Rev Marcus Knight the holder of the Post-Graduate scholarship obtained first-class Honours in the Study of Religion Three students took the degree of and eight passed the Intermediate Two women are included in these results one having taken the and one having passed the Intermediate Three women students passed the Lambeth Diploma Examination six completed the examination for the University Diploma and three took the first part of the Diploma Examination four obtained the University Certificate in Religious Knowledge Associateship The Council elected 65 Associates during the Session Theology 25 Arts 21 Science 15 Medicine Engineering The Rev Canon Simpson Oriel Professor of Interpretation of Holy Scripture in the University of Oxford again acted as External
