xxxiv ANNUAL REPORT Intermediate Science 37 Physics subsidiary to Honours Chemistry 17 General Honours 30 Special Honours 30 Medical 67 Engineering 41 Radiology Class Preliminary Class 13 Occasional Total 245 Results of Examinations In the Special Final Examination held in July 1929 students obtained Honours in Physics being placed in the First Class and in the Second Class Higher Degrees Sc Stockholm Mr Rudberg Sc Mr Macfadyen Researches During the Session members of the Staff and 15 students were engaged in research 15 of whom were supervised by Professor Richard- son by Professor Appleton and by Dr Flint Departmental Notes Professor Appleton was awarded Wireless Premium by the Council of the Institution of Electrical Engineers for his paper On the Study of Signal Fading and the Morris Liebmann Memorial Prize for 1929 by the American Institute of Radio Engineers Professor Appleton attended the Brussels Meeting of the Union Radio Scientifique Internationale as the representative of the British National Committee for Radio-Telegraphy in September 1928 At the General Assembly of the Union he was elected President of the Commission on Atmospherics Dr Childs was awarded Rockefeller Foundation Fellow- ship and has left the Department to continue his research studies at the University of Bonn Department of Chemistry Number of Students During the Session 237 Undergraduate students attended courses of instruction in the Department distributed as follows
