XXX ANNUAL REPORT the Aristotelian Society and of the Executive Committee of the British Institute of Philosophical Studies for the coming Session Professor Wildon Carr gave the Presidential Address to the Pacific Division of the American Philosophical Association in January in June he lectured to the students of the College and large public audience on The Philosophy of Leibniz 1' For the courses of public lectures given during the Session see pp xlv-xlviii The numbers of students and interest in Philosophy have definitely increased this year and there seems reason to expect further growth in the Post-graduate and Honours work As sign of the increase of active interest in philosophy may be mentioned the formation by the students for the first time of Philosophical Society which held three meetings before the end of the Session Department of Psychology Number of Students During the Session 1928-29 169 students were in attendance in the Department of whom were reading for First Degrees 11 for Higher Degrees and for the Academic Diploma Twenty students of the Faculty of Theology attended the Elementary Course 36 students attended the Laboratory Course arranged in connection with the Diploma in Education and studied Psychology in preparation for the Diploma in Journalism There were 37 Intercollegiate students in attendance and 11 of whom obtained the College Diploma followed the courses in Applied Psychology Advertising Results of Examinations Two students obtained Second Class Honours in the Sc Special Examination student obtained Second Class and Third Class in the Honours Examination students were awarded the Academic Diploma in Psychology and student was successful in Part of the Examination for the same Diploma Higher Degress Lit Dr Aveling The Psychological Approach to Reality Ph Mr Cattell Sc Subjective Cognition and Conative Response Ph Mr Caughey The Influence of Conation on Mental and Manual Performance Ph Miss Ε Walters Retentivity in the Special Senses New Developments At the end of the Session further room was added to the Depart- ment for use as Seminar Room Michotte Rotary Tachistoscope was purchased and installed in the Laboratory An additional two-
