XXII ANNUAL REPORT Results of Examinations In the recent Final Honours Examination 28 students obtained degrees being placed in the First Class out of awarded One of these Mr Sidney George West was awarded by the University the George Smith Studentship and by the College the Inglis Studentship Twenty-two students were placed in the Second Class of whom were in the per Division and in the Third Class Eleven students gained the University Diploma Day in EngUsh Language and Litera- ture In the Sessional Examination for Evening Diploma Students lst 2nd and 3rd Year 43 passed 28 were awarded Certificates of Merit and mark of special Distinction Higher Degrees Ph Mr Harrison for his published work An Eliza- bethan Journal Ph Mr Satyendranath Ray Departmental Notes Miss Ingram retired from the post of Secretary of the Board of Studies in English which she has filled for the last six years Professor Reed was re-elected Chairman of the Board Dr Harrison was elected the first occupant at Chicago University of the Frederick Ives Carpenter Chair of English Literature This post visiting Professorship Dr Harrison filled during the Summer Session of 1929 Department of History Number of Students Day Evening Intermediate 66 26 Pass and Subsidiary 30 30 Honours 67 20 Journalism 12 Occasional 12 Post-graduate Registered at King's College 36 Registered elsewhere 12 Totals 235 83 318 Results of Examinations Intermediate 79 candidates entered of whom 71 passed in History Pass and Subsidiary 21 candidates entered of whom 19 passed in History
