XX ANNUAL REPORT on June 27th and of the Dance at Australia House on the evening of the same day for both of which the Union Society made itself responsible The Pageant was remarkably good and reflected great credit on the pageant-master the performers and the many workers behind the scenes In view of the high level that was attained it was singularly unfortunate that the afternoon should have been so cold The Dance in the evening was great success too for although more tickets than usual were issued more still could have been disposed of had it been possible to enlarge the hall The King's College Review appeared regularly throughout the year culminating in an enlarged Centenary number for which special cover was designed by an old student of the College Mr Bird "Pougasse The College has continued to take an interest in the National Union of Students fair number of students attending the Annual Congress at Aberystwyth and representative from King's Mr Jarvis being sent by the Union Society to the CLE Conference at Budapest in August 1929 The Annual Athletic Sports were held at Mitcham on May 11th Mention has been made elsewhere in this report of the new rifle range which will be available next Session the possession of which should help in maintaining the high standard in rifle shooting which the College has already achieved with inadequate means of practice The activities of the College in connection with the con- tinue to be very satisfactory Recruiting showed marked improve- ment and the College contingent may soon be as impressive in numbers as it has been in the past in efficiency The total strength of Officer Cadets in the various units is now 155 of whom 112 were able to attend the camps of their respective units The results of the examinations for Certificate were particularly gratifying no less than 41 King's College cadets being successful in attaining this qualification The Guard of Honour which was mounted by the upon His Royal Highness the Duke of York on June 25th provoked very favour- able comment by its smartness and soldierly appearance This report of the various sectional activities of the students may conclude by drawing attention to an important development of general policy in the direction of closer co-ordination of these activities In 1929 the conditions of affiliation were brought under an extensive review and revised scheme of affiliation was introduced so that now every Society in College is made in one way or another directly responsible to the Union Society The previous anomalous position of Societies existing independently of the Union Society has thus been destroyed and it is hoped that by pursuing this policy of unification the Union Society will go from strength to greater strength until all the Societies which it sponsors are working with the maximum efficiency and with the greatest benefit to the Student body
